What Our Mothers Didn't Teach Us: Sex, Desire, and the Erotic as Power is a virtual generative writing workshop that blends the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) Method with somatic practices to begin reframing a woman's right to experience Desire, Sex, and the Erotic without shame, guilt, or censure.
This 6-Week writing workshop series is rooted in safety, confidentiality, and affirmation of the AWA Method. Participants are guided through curated writing prompts inspired by womanist and sex positive philosophy — paired with light reading and discussion — to begin naming what's been unspoken and unpacking what's been carried.
During this six week workshop, women write into rage, stillness, and self-reinvention through affirmative, non-prescriptive feedback, gently opening the conversation around if and how women have the right to experience and expect pleasure.
Somatic practices—including grounding breath work, smile yoga and guided meditation—support embodiment and emotional release throughout each session. In addition to 18 hours of live, guided writing and processing, participants also receive access to the following
30-Minute Writing Doula Session with Integration Report
1-hour co-writing space every week
WhatsApp message support through weeks two and four
Founding Member lifetime membership to The Writing Doula Collective Skool community.
By the close, participants will have begun a new language, image, and perspective for reconnecting with desire, sex, and the erotic as a source of power and creativity. A first act of reclamation and becoming.
