Creative Writing & Communication Lessons for Homeschool Students
Right2Write gives homeschool students meaningful ways to develop written expression, communication, reasoning, creativity, and cross-curricular thinking through engaging creative writing experiences.
Students don't simply complete writing assignments. They create, investigate, explain, revise, make decisions, solve problems, communicate ideas, and build finished work they can be proud to call their own.
Writing is one of the ways students show us how they think.
A child may know the answer, understand the concept, imagine the solution, or recognize the problem—and still have difficulty communicating what they know.
Right2Write uses creative writing and communication lessons to help students turn ideas into language, language into understanding, and understanding into finished work.
Students develop clearer written and verbal communication.
Structure helps students move from imagination into action.
Revision becomes part of creating rather than a punishment for getting something wrong.
Students make choices about voice, audience, purpose, structure and meaning.
Writing becomes a tool students can apply throughout their homeschool education.
Creative writing doesn't have to live in an ELA box.
Right2Write keeps creativity at the center while helping students apply communication, reasoning, organization, research, observation and explanation throughout their academic learning.

The student is not an empty page waiting to be filled.
Right2Write begins with the learner—their ideas, curiosity, interests, voice, choices and capacity—and provides enough structure to help those things become meaningful academic work.
Voice
Students discover how they sound on the page and how language can communicate what they mean.
Executive Function
Longer creative projects require students to plan, organize, remember, prioritize and move through multiple stages toward completion.
Creative Problem-Solving
Story invites students to imagine several possibilities, evaluate consequences and make intentional choices.
Perspective-Taking
Characters and conflict encourage students to consider viewpoints, experiences and motivations beyond their own.
Persistence
Students experience ideas changing, drafts evolving and unfinished work becoming something complete.
Self-Knowledge
Writing helps students notice how they generate ideas, where they get stuck, what interests them and what supports them in moving forward.
The first Right2Write pilot is for grades 3–6.
Right2Write will grow beyond these grade levels. For our first paid pilot, however, we're beginning intentionally with a limited group of homeschool students in grades 3 through 6.
Pilot accounts will be limited and offered first come, first served.
3rd Grade
Pilot Lesson ChoiceThe Weather That Followed Me Home
Students imagine an unusual weather event that follows a character home, then build a story around observation, sequence, cause and effect, descriptive language and problem-solving.
4th Grade
Pilot Lesson ChoiceBuild the World's Most Impossible Playground
Students design a one-of-a-kind playground, work within rules and limitations, use measurement concepts and persuade an imaginary town council that their design deserves to be built.
5th Grade
Pilot Lesson ChoiceThe Day Our Town Ran Out of Water
Students enter a fictional town experiencing a water crisis, research possibilities, explore different viewpoints and develop a story-based response to the problem.
6th Grade
Pilot Lesson ChoiceWelcome to Planet X
Students build a fictional settlement on another planet and connect imaginative decisions to resources, environment, population, technology, systems and survival.
Children are developing more than answers.
Creative writing gives students a meaningful setting in which to develop capabilities that influence how they learn, communicate and engage with other people.
Confidence
Creating original work gives students repeated evidence that their ideas can become something tangible.
Communication
Students strengthen the ability to make an internal idea understandable to someone else.
Decision-Making
Writers continually decide what matters, what belongs, what changes and what happens next.
Flexibility
Stories change. Ideas evolve. Students learn that changing direction can be part of creating something stronger.
Audience Awareness
Students learn that communication changes depending upon who is receiving the message and why it matters.
Completion
Right2Write is designed around creating finished work, not simply accumulating disconnected worksheets.
Their stories can become books.
Right2Write is being developed to give students something many academic programs never provide: an authentic destination for their original work.
Families completing a full year of Right2Write will have the option to pursue publication of their child's completed books through Southern Momentum Publishing House.
The Young Author Publishing Pathway
Students can finish the year with a body of work that represents growth, imagination, revision, communication and completion.
The optional Southern Momentum Publishing House pathway is designed to move qualifying completed projects toward professional publication and distribution.
- Completed original manuscripts
- A developing writing portfolio
- Revision experience
- Writing for a real audience
- A tangible record of creative and academic growth
- The opportunity to become a published young author

What families should know
Is Right2Write only for grades 3–6?
No. Grades 3–6 apply only to the first paid pilot. Right2Write is being developed as a broader creative writing and communication program for homeschool students.
Is Right2Write a complete homeschool curriculum?
Right2Write is designed as student-centered academic enrichment. Creative writing and communication lessons can complement a family's existing curriculum by connecting writing with language arts, research, mathematical reasoning, science communication and broader learning skills.
Does my child have to already love writing?
No. Right2Write is intended for students who already fill notebooks with stories and students who have strong ideas but find it difficult to begin, organize or complete written work.
Why connect writing with math and science?
Right2Write does not turn creative stories into math worksheets or science tests. Instead, students use language to explain reasoning, describe systems, communicate observations, organize information, interpret evidence and make ideas understandable to another person.
Will Right2Write include grammar?
Yes. Grammar, punctuation, sentence development, vocabulary and editing can be incorporated within authentic writing so students understand how language choices affect what they are trying to communicate.
Is this therapy or a social-emotional program?
No. Right2Write is an educational program. Creative writing can provide opportunities for students to develop reflection, communication, perspective-taking, decision-making, flexibility, confidence and self-knowledge, but Right2Write is not therapy.
Will parents have to teach every lesson?
The full platform is being developed to support increasing student independence while still giving parents clear visibility into what their child is learning, creating and completing.
Can my child's work really become a published book?
Families completing a full year of Right2Write will have the option to pursue publication of completed student books through Southern Momentum Publishing House. Publishing requirements, packages, timelines and distribution details will be provided separately.
Give their ideas somewhere to grow.
