Decolonizing the Erotic: Introduction (Mandatory: Offered once every quarter)
Workshop Description: Unmasking Truths: A Generative Writing Retreat for Black and Brown Women
Join us for a transformative four-week generative writing workshop designed specifically for Black and Brown women. In this intimate and supportive space, we will delve deep into the internalized colonial constructs that many of us wear as masks, affecting how we see ourselves and how we’re seen by the world.
Using the AWA (Aloha Writing Approach) Method, we invite participants to engage in radical honesty—both with themselves and with one another. Through guided writing exercises, prompts, and open discussions, we will confront the narratives that confine us and reclaim our stories in powerful, unapologetic ways.
Each week, we will:
Week 1: Naming Our Masks
Explore the layers of identity and the historical influences that shape them. Participants will write about the masks they wear and the stories behind them.Week 2: The Cost of Silence
Reflect on the societal pressures that encourage silence and conformity. Through writing, we will articulate the truths we’ve kept hidden, liberating ourselves from the weight of unspoken words.Week 3: Rewriting Our Narratives
Focus on the power of narrative reclamation. Participants will generate creative pieces that challenge colonial narratives and celebrate personal truths, fostering confidence and creativity.Week 4: Building a Community of Truths
Share our writings and insights with each other in a supportive environment. Together, we will craft collective affirmations that honor our truths and envision a future free from the constraints of societal norms.
This workshop is more than just writing—it's about community, healing, and courageous self-exploration. Ready to unmask your truth and join a sisterhood of radical honesty? Sign up to reclaim your voice, power, and story.
