What

What is Decolonizing the Erotic?

Decolonizing the Erotic is a 10-month AWA Method generative writing workshop for Black and Brown women who are ready to reclaim their stories, reimagine desire, and write from the deepest parts of their sacred selves. Rooted in the work of Audre Lorde and guided by the understanding that the Erotic is not simply about sex, but about power, truth, and connection to the divine, this workshop dismantles colonial narratives that have silenced and distorted our sensual and spiritual identities.

Each month centers on a different theme—curiosity, abundance, surrender, expansion—and includes reflective journaling, guided meditations, craft talks, peer dialogue, and radical writing prompts designed to help you excavate your truest voice and write from a place of embodied liberation.

This is not only a writing workshop. It’s where Black and Brown women/femmes enter to unlearn, dis-member, and erase their colonial selves; while in the process of re-learning, re-membering, and re-writing themselves as sovereign (to reign over one’s self), powerful conduits for the divine, feminine creative energy that is The Erotic

Why

Why Decolonize the Erotic?

  • Because colonization taught us that our bodies were not our own.

  • Because capitalism made pleasure transactional.

  • Because patriarchy told us to be silent about what we desire.

  • Because we deserve to own our truths about who we are and what we feel—without apology.

Writing from the Erotic is writing from the place where our power lives. When we decolonize it, we not only take back our stories—we take back our creative sovereignty. This workshop is an offering for those who are ready to write beyond the binary, beyond the trauma, and into the realm of sacred possibility.

Your Words Are Necessary. You Desires Are Necessary. Your Voice is Necessary. You Are Necessary.

  • Your voice is not too much.

  • Your words are not too wild.
